Combined Treatment of Cr(VI)-Contaminated Soils by Reduction, Adsorption, and Solidification

چکیده

Remediation of Cr(VI)-contaminated soil usually includes reducing Cr(VI) to Cr(III) with sub-sequent solidification. In this paper, a treatment technique that combines reduction, adsorption, and solidification was proposed. By introducing an adsorbent into the reduction process, remediation effectiveness improved amount solidified agent decreased. Synthetic precipitation leaching procedure (SPLP), unconfined compressive strength (UCS) test, scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis were carried out evaluate effect under different combinations agent-adding procedures. The results SPLP showed reduction/adsorption/solidification significantly reduced leachability Cr. UCS increased increasing dosage cement CaS5, decreased vermiculite. best CaS5 2 times molar stoichiometric ratio Cr(VI), 15% vermiculite, 20% cement. Orthogonal test for low content, most important factor affected Cement vermiculite have greater impact in limiting Cr when content increased.

Contaminated soil treatment: Summary of PhD thesis on stabilisation/solidification combined with biodegradation

This work investigated development of operating envelopes for stabilisation/solidification (S/S) treatment, and facilitation of biodegradation within S/S treated contaminated soils, with the aim of improving the robustness and sustainability of S/S technology. The ‘process envelopes’ study utilised different conventional cementitious binders for treatment of contaminated soil, and generated ext...

Composting of Soils Contaminated by Explosives

oil at more than 30 munitions sites across the United States is contaminated with explosives. The U.S. military has discovered that the composting process, and the use of finished (mature, cured) compost can effectively remediate munitions-contaminated soils. To incorporate such soil into the composting process, the soil is excavated and mixed with other feedstocks. The end-product is a contami...

Nitrogen and carbon dioxide adsorption by soils.

High-resolution nitrogen (77 K) and carbon dioxide (273 K) adsorption at subatmospheric pressures has been studied for a range of model soils of various origins with different organic matter (OM) contents. It is demonstrated that N2 and CO2 molecules probe different regions of soil particles. Nitrogen is adsorbed primarily on the outer surface of soil particles, while CO2 has a higher affinity ...

REDUCTION OF Cd, Pb AND Ni LEACHING FROM CONTAMINATED SOILS BY IMMOBILIZATION

This paper discusses the results of Cd, Pb and Ni immobilization using cement. Soil contamination levels were in the range 500 mg/kg to 5,000 rug/kg. and cement ratios were in the range 3% to 18%. The process was highly effective in minimizing the leaching of tested heavy metals. The measured leaching reduction results were as follows: 76% to more than 96% for Pb; 30% to more than 99% for Cd; a...
